Microway® NumberSmasher™ Dense Clusters and Servers Provide Exceptional Performance with Xeon® Quad- and Six-Core 5600-series Processors

Microway's line of robust, Intel Xeon-based clusters includes gigabit ethernet, InfiniBand high-speed interconnects, NodeWatch/MCMS Remote Cluster Management and Monitoring Tools and third party software including Intel Compilers and Cluster Tools, Acclereyes Jacket GPU Middleware for MATLAB, and Moab. Servers and compute nodes are offered with single and dual socket Intel "Westmere" Quad- and Six-Core processors in 1U-3U chassis, with up to 144GB of memory. All Microway clusters are available with low power processor and GPU options.



Compute-intensive applications will benefit from revolutionary Intel® Xeon® processor 5500/5600 series innovations:
  • Hyperthreading improves application efficiency and reduces run times by increasing instructions completed per cycle up to 33%.
  • Intel Turbo Boost automatically overclocks processor cores when power and thermal conditions allow.
  • Intelligent Power Technology adjusts system power consumption real-time to workload. Automated Low Power States reduces CPU, Memory and I/O power without impacting performance and Integrated Power Gates dynamically turn off cpu cores that are not in use to reduce idle power.
  • Intel® QuickPath architecture in which each processor owns a part of the total system memory and having each of the components stitched together with a high-speed point-to-point interconnect.
  • Up to 12MB of on-die L3 cache, 6.4GT/sec QPI and triple channel DDR3 1333 MHz memory provide your application the fastest access to data. Microway has measured over 40GB/sec memory bandwidth using the STREAM benchmark, over 40% faster than other dual-processor configurations.
  • Intel® 5520 chipset with 36 lanes of PCI-Express generation 2.0 provides unprecedented bandwidth to storage, network and GPUs.
  • SSE4.2, with additional application-specific instructions for tasks such as XML string parsing and CRC32 error correction calculations. Combined with Intel's compiler tools and performance libraries, a user's application will be automatically vectorized to take advantage of SSE SIMD instructions.


Clusters are delivered fully-functional and include Linux OS of choice (SUSE, Red Hat, Gentoo, Ubuntu, etc), MMDS™, a performance analysis tool, MCMS™ Microway's Cluster Management Software, and optional NodeWatch™ Remote Cluster Monitoring and Control Tools. Microway also has partnerships with leading software providers including Red Hat, Novell, Intel, Portland Group, PathScale, Accelereyes and Moab from Cluster Resources.

Microway offers data storage solutions and high-speed QDR InfiniBand and Gigabit Ethernet for fine and coarse grain parallel applications.
