Microway Launches New Tesla K40 GPU Accelerator-enabled WhisperStations, Servers, and Clusters

17 TFLOPS at Your Desktop!

DENVER, CO.—SC13—Nov. 18, 2013

Microway, a provider of HPC solutions since 1982, today announced that it will offer the NVIDIA® Tesla® K40 GPU accelerator throughout its high-performance computing (HPC) product lines.

The new WhisperStation® – Tesla K40 GPU and NumberSmasher® Tesla K40 GPU-based clusters increase the performance of many important HPC applications by 5 to 40x.  Customers will enjoy acceleration in domains such as Molecular Dynamics, Quantum Chemistry, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), FEA, Medical Imaging, Electromagnetics/Electrodynamics, Weather, Atmospheric and Ocean modeling, big data analytics, and Computational Finance.

The Tesla K40 GPU is the first and highest-performance accelerator optimized for big data analytics and large-scale scientific workloads. It delivers double the memory and up to 40 percent higher performance than its predecessor, and 10 times higher performance than today’s fastest CPU. It features intelligent NVIDIA GPU Boost technology, which converts power headroom into a user-controlled performance boost, enabling users to unlock the untapped performance of a broad range of applications.

Microway’s popular WhisperStation  platform incorporates up to 3 NVIDIA Tesla K40 GPU accelerators, one NVIDIA Quadro® K6000 GPU, dual Intel® Xeon® E5-2600v2 CPUs, up to 256GB DDR3-1866 memory  and optional RAID.  The top of the line OctoPuter™ server provides up to 8 Tesla K40 GPUs, 384GB DDR3-1866 memory , and Intel Xeon E5-2600v2 CPUs. Cluster configurations range from 5- 500 nodes and leverage 1-8 Tesla GPUs per node, paired with Xeon E5-2600v2 CPUs. Life Sciences researchers may consider Microway’s award-winning BioStack™ hybrid GPU cluster configuration.

The NVIDIA Tesla K40 GPU accelerator features 2,880 CUDA® parallel processing cores, and  12GB of ultra-fast GDDR5 memory with up to 288GB/second bandwidth. Delivering 4.29 TFLOPS single-precision and 1.43 TFLOPS double-precision peak floating point performance, the Tesla K40 GPU accelerator is based on the NVIDIA Kepler™ GPU computing architecture and powered by NVIDIA CUDA, the world’s most pervasive parallel computing model.

“Microway’s NVIDIA GPU-based systems offer our customers the highest performance available and at the best ROI,” commented Ann Fried, CEO and Co-founder of Microway.  “The Tesla K40 GPU is the most powerful accelerator offering to date, and we are excited about the performance offered and breadth of applications that will support this great accelerator.”

“HPC customers across a range of scientific and engineering domains will benefit from Microway’s innovative GPU-accelerated servers and workstations,” said Sumit Gupta, general manager of Tesla Accelerated Computing products at NVIDIA. “With the addition of Tesla K40 GPU accelerators, Microway  systems offer customers a new level of supercomputing horsepower to drive innovation and scientific discovery.”
