Software

Microway custom configures the operating system and tools software for your needs.

Microway partners with leading commercial software providers to include products such as Red Hat Linux, Platform Computing LSF, PolyServe MatrixServer, PGI Compilers, and MPI Software Technology MPI/Pro on its clusters. Our experienced technicians can configure the latest distributions and released software for your Linux workstation, server, or Beowulf cluster.

Compilers and Software Development Tools

GCC
The GNU Compiler Collection contains front-ends for C, C++, Objective C,
Chill, Fortran, and Java as well as libraries for these languages.

Intel Software Development Products
The Intel® Software Development Products are a full suite of tools that can help developers easily create the fastest software possible on Intel architecture. The tools are compatible with the leading development environments available today, and are easy to use with the tools developers are already utilizing to tune their software.

Absoft Fortran Compilers

The Portland Group Compilers and Cluster Development Kits

PathScale
Microway offers the PathScale EKO Compiler Suite on our Navion™ Opteron™ Linux clusters and workstations. The compilers are optimized for excellent 64-bit performance in C, C++ and Fortran applications.

ATLAS, BLAS, LAPACK
The public domain LAPACK (Linear Algebra Package) is a library of dense linear and eigenproblem solvers that supercedes LINPACK and EISPACK, offering better performance and accuracy.

ScaLAPACK
The ScaLAPACK (or Scalable LAPACK) library includes a subset of LAPACK routines redesigned for distributed memory MIMD parallel computers. ScaLAPACK is designed for heterogeneous computing and is portable on any computer that supports MPI or PVM.

InfiniBand Diagnostic Tools

InfiniScope: InfiniBand Diagnostic Utility™
InfiniScope displays the traffic of an InfiniBand fabric in real time by collecting data from the performance registers on all host and switch ports. InfiniScope is compatible with all InfiniBand products utilizing both Mellanox and Pathscale/Qlogic silicon. Data can be read up to 100 times per second without impacting performance of user programs.

The traffic data is shown on a network graph generated by the InfiniBand subnet manager. It shows both the topology of the network and the host-to-host paths as calculated by the subnet manager. DDR and SDR connections are marked, and links with 1X lane width are unmistakably shown with flashing yellow and black lines.

MPI Diagnostic Tools

MMDS: Microway MPI Diagnostic Suite™
Microway's MPI Diagnostic Suite™ consists of two applications: MPI Link-Checker™ and MPI Fast-Check™. The two applications perform complimentary functions. MPI Fast-Check performs a fast one-time test of all nodes in your cluster and reports any nodes that are clearly underperforming. MPI Link-Checker performs a much more extensive set of latency, bandwidth, and data integrity tests between all pairs of nodes. The data is presented graphically so you can easily spot problem nodes. The MPI Link-Checker™ tool detects issues with processor caching, motherboards, PCI busses, BIOS's, riser cards and PCI interconnects. It can even detect intermittent cables and cross bar switches!

Resource Management Tools

MCMS™ and NodeWatch™ Remote Cluster Monitoring and Control Solution
The combination of NodeWatch and MCMS (Microway Cluster Management Software) enables users to measure, report and record the physical health of each node in a Microway® 1U, Athlon, Opteron or Xeon cluster. NodeWatch remotely monitors fan speeds, temperatures, and power supply voltages, and will trigger an alarm if parameters exceed preset limits. NodeWatch software delivers critical information remotely via a secure web-based GUI.

Platform Computing
Platform LSF 5 removes barriers to productivity by providing reliable, on-demand access to global compute resources and balancing workloads across the entire organization.
  • Built on a grid-enabled, robust architecture for open, scalable and modular environments.
  • Engineered for enterprise deployment. LSF provides unlimited scalability with support for over 100 clusters, more than 200,000 CPU's and 500,000 active jobs.
  • A Web-based interface puts the convenience and simplicity of global access to resources into the hands of administrators and users.
  • Platform LSF 5, with its open, plug-in architecture, seamlessly integrates with third party applications and heterogeneous technology platforms.

MPI Software Technology
MPI/Pro provides professional message passing for high-performance, parallel computing. It improves the performance of clusters running applications such as CFD simulation, weather modeling, financial modeling, seismic exploration, and protein folding.
  • An efficient and scalable standard
    - derived data types
    - collective operations
    - communicators manage groups of processes
    - automatic data conversion
  • Portable environment
    - available on many HPC environments
    - accepted, ubiquitous message passing model
    - designed to support third party libraries
  • Comprehensive support of the MPI-1.2 specification
    - easy to learn; can use only 6 functions
    - flexible; can use 128 functions
    - evolving: through forthcoming extensions

PVM
PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) is a software package that permits a heterogeneous
collection of Linux and/or NT computers hooked together by a network to be used
as a single large parallel computer. Thus large computational problems can be solved
more cost effectively by using the aggregate power and memory of many computers.

MPICH and LAM-MPI are implementations of MPI.
MPI is the standard for multicomputer and Beowulf cluster message passing introduced by the
Message-Passing Interface Forum in April 1994. The goal of MPI is to develop a widely
used standard for writing message-passing programs.

Operating Systems and Environments

Red Hat Linux
Red Hat Linux is a comprehensive suite of Linux solutions designed for mission-critical enterprise computing and certified by top enterprise software vendors. It delivers reliability and value, coupling the innovation of open source technology and the stability of a true enterprise-class platform.

SuSE Linux
No matter whether your IT infrastructure comprises 32-bit or 64-bit x86 systems, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server is universally deployable.

Mandrake Linux
MandrakeSoft offers all the power and stability of Linux for professional users in an easy-to-use environment.

Debian Linux
Debian is a free Linux distribution. It utilizes the dpkg system for package management. Debian's apt-get utility provides for easy package installation and updates.

Gentoo Linux
Gentoo is another free Linux distribution. Gentoo is different from typical Linux installations in that everything is built from source. Utilizing the portage system, Gentoo allows for a custom built installation that is tuned for your specific hardware. Another advantage, especially to HPC users, is the availabilty of packages for a variety of scientific packages. This can come in very handy for difficult to install computational packages.

Other Linux distributions are available upon request.
