Microway® Delivers Navion-DC™ 4-way and 8-way Servers
Based on Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor Models 885 and 285
For Demanding 64-bit HPC and Enterprise Applications


Kingston, MA - March 6, 2006 - Microway announces their newest Navion-DC™ SMP servers, based on Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ processor Models 885 and 285. The quad- and 8-way servers include Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors Model 885 and up to 128 GB memory. The Navion-DC-4 and DC-8 are ideal for compute-intensive applications including DSP, CFD and FEA as well as high performance database and Enterprise-class applications. The new systems support a variety of operating systems including SUSE and Red Hat Linux and the latest 64-bit release of Microsoft Windows. Also available is a Navion-DC-2 featuring two Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors Model 285. This latter system is optimized to be grouped in clusters which run a balanced load of diverse applications.

Housed in a custom-designed 4U RuggedRack™ chassis, Microway's Navion-DC-4 provides a high ROI given its affordable cost of acquisition. Its integrated advanced manageability features have been refined over years of development and hundreds of real-world cluster deployments. Microway's NodeWatch™ and MCMS™ hardware/software management solution for remote cluster monitoring and control are included as standard features on both the Navion-DC-4 and Navion-DC-2. Well-known for its expertise in cooling, Microway's operating temperatures are consistently lower than industry guidelines. Both the 1U chassis and 4U RuggedRack™ feature proprietary Across-the-Board™ enhanced cooling. The RuggedRack includes front access hard disks and Hot-Swap power supplies. This allows the most common system failures to be serviced without powering off the server, or even removing the unit from its cabinet.

The arrival of Microsoft's 64-bit version of Windows will provide a big performance boost for users of both AMD and Microsoft products in the Enterprise market. Availability of AMD's dual-core processors will also make it possible for small businesses to buy a server that runs up to 16 processor cores, has 64 GB of memory and expanded I/O and hard disk capability, for less than $30,000.
