Microway announces compatibility of Platform LSF® on AMD64 Architecture

Plymouth, MA - June 23, 2003

Microway announces the completion of compatibility testing and official support for Platform LSF® version 5.1 on AMD64 technology-based systems. Testing was performed by Platform Computing on an AMD Opteron processor-based Navion system from Microway, allowing Platform and AMD customers to offer LSF to users requiring the latest in Enterprise Grid foundation software.

"Working with Platform to qualify LSF on AMD64 was important to our overall strategy for Microway's Navion line," said Jay Owen, Vice President, Business Development for Microway. "Many of our current prospects and existing customers for Navion have applications where Platform LSF provides features such as workload management across heterogeneous clusters and the ability to apply workload policies. More frequently than not, users sharing large clusters use these tools to maximize available compute cycles."

"Platform is committed to the broadest possible deployment of Platform LSF," said Ian Baird, Vice President Marketing, Platform. "By completing compatibility testing on Microway's Navion, based on the AMD Opteron processor, we take a large step in supporting the next generation of computing products."

"Platform, with Microway's cooperation, was able to easily complete compatibility testing of LSF on the AMD64 architecture," said Ben Williams, director of AMD's Server/Workstation Business Segment. "This provides another application supporting the AMD Opteron processor in a market that is keenly interested in 32- and 64-bit computing capabilities."

The Microway Navion line has generated considerable interest where legacy 32-bit code must coexist with newer applications taking advantage of 64-bit processing. For example, this occurs in life sciences environments where complex biochemistry and imaging research is being done with more established genomics work. With Platform LSF, users can combine a robust job scheduling tool with the latest in processor technology.

Platform LSF and Microway Navion systems are available for immediate delivery.
