Microway® Showcases New Products Based on Infiniband
Technology
PLYMOUTH, MA -- November 15, 2002 -- Microway, Inc., a provider of leading
edge technology for solving high performance computing problems, will be
showcasing InfiniBand technology in a number of exciting new products and
concept designs at SC2002, November 18-21, 2002 in Baltimore, MD.
The main demonstration will consist of a combination of twelve nodes
interconnected via InfiniBand. Eight Microway InfinaBlade single board
computers will be housed in a 5U, rack mounted chassis. Four 1U Xeon
nodes, with InfiniBand HCAs will be connected using a Mellanox eight port
switch. The switch for the 1Us will be connected to the switch in the
InfinaBlade chassis connecting all twelve devices into a single cluster.
The InfinaBlade contains one 1.8 GHz P4 processor and memory. The
InfinaBlade chassis is built with a common, passive backplane.
Interconnection within the chassis is provided by an InfiniBand switch card
inserted into the backplane. The switch provides connectivity on the
backplane and has four additional ports available for external connections.
Up to two switches can be connected to the backplane for redundancy. The
chassis will accommodate a maximum of twelve InfinaBlades. Power is provided
by a two KW industrial-grade power supply.
Stephen Fried, President and CTO of Microway commented, "It's exciting to be
back in the single board computer business. The InfinaBlade product announced
today integrates fast processors with the highest speed and lowest latency
interconnect available. This marriage results in a cost-effective, compact
clustering solution that also features high reliability - all of the blades
and switches built into our InfinaBlade Chassis are hot swappable and can be
set up to operate redundantly, if desired."
As processors achieve quantum improvements in performance, the supporting
cluster technology must also keep pace. In the past eighteen months we have
seen processors break the 2 GHz and now 3 GHz barriers. InfiniBand provides a
doubling of raw bandwidth and the potential for a three fold reduction in
latency based on the inherent architecture. As a provider of leading HPC
technologies, Microway is committed to keeping pace with the latest
developments in this market.
