Microway Launches NumberSmasher®-64 Clusters and Servers Based on Dual Intel® Itanium® 2 Processors.
Plymouth, MA , June 30, 2003 - Microway, a leading manufacturer of
custom-configured HPC Linux clusters, is pleased to announce the
NumberSmasher®-64 family of clusters and servers. This is made
possible by Microway's completion of evaluation testing of the newly
released Intel® SR870BH2 2U rack mount chassis with dual Intel® Itanium®
2 6M L3 cache processors. The SR870BH2 is the basic building block for
the NumberSmasher®-64 product line.
Intel's Itanium® 2 enterprise-class processors bring the performance and
volume economics of the Intel Architecture to the most demanding
segments of computing. Combining Itanium® 2 processors with Intel's
Software Development Tools offers HPC users a broad choice of reliable
and scalable platforms and software for high-end servers and clusters at
significantly lower costs and greater performance than proprietary
offerings.
"Our customers push to the very edge of available technology to solve
complex research problems. They come to Microway because we rigorously
evaluate, qualify and recommend platforms that are appropriate for their
demanding work," said Jay Owen, Vice President, Sales and Business
Development. "As an Intel Premier Provider, Microway has access to all
state-of-the-art Itanium 2 processor designs. We quickly completed the
work required to confirm the new dual Intel Itanium 2-based SR870BH2
server platform is a natural complement to the high end of our fully
integrated, robust Beowulf cluster solutions."
Microway's newly announced NumberSmasher®-64 servers and cluster nodes
are dual processor, 2U configurations with up to 16GB of memory.
Microway also offers a NumberSmasher® 4U quad Itanium® 2 configuration in a
4U chassis, with up to 32 GB of memory and multiple PCI-X slots.
Microway's proprietary NodeWatch/MCMS&513; cluster monitoring and
management tools are available on NumberSmasher®-64 based clusters.
With NodeWatch/MCMS administrators have a cluster-wide view allowing
remote, active management based on resource utilization and
environmental factors. The company continually evaluates complementary
tools for HPC users and maintains partnerships with leading commercial
software providers including Intel, Platform Computing and MPI Software
Technology.
